Occupied Germany and Berlin
The occupation zones of Germany after 1945, with Berlin divided into four sectors deep inside the Soviet zone.
The map contains the whole problem. Berlin was governed by four powers but sat 160 kilometres inside Soviet-held territory, reachable only by agreed corridors. That geography made the city both a showcase and a hostage, and it is the reason a dispute over currency reform in 1948 could be turned into a siege simply by closing the roads.
